Developments at the London Stock Exchange
The London Stock Exchange Group plc is the leading diversified exchange group in Europe with some 50 percent of the FTSEurofirst 100 by market capitalization and the most liquid order book by value and volume traded. In addition to its capital raising and equity trading services, the Group also offers Europe's leading market for the electronic trading of ETFs and securitized derivatives, and owns and operates MTS, Europe's leading fixed-income market for government bonds, including those of Israel.
London is a truly international market. We provide access to the largest pool of international equity assets in the world. This reflects the open market culture in the UK, which has been internationally focused for centuries, with London's long history of overseas trade. This culture is embedded in London's investment management community.
London offers a choice of routes to market, suitable for companies of all types, sizes and stages of development.
The London Stock Exchange's Main Market for established companies seeking international recognition is one of the world's best known, longest established and most liquid markets. Regulated by the UK Listing Authority, it is home to some of the world's largest and most successful companies, giving them access to one of the deepest pools of capital in the world. Companies can access the Main Market through a 'gold standard' premium listing or a European Union harmonized standard listing of equity or GDRs. During 2010, companies on our Main Market raised US$39 billion in equity issues.
AIM is the London Stock Exchange's international market designed for smaller and growing companies. AIM offers companies in the earlier stages of development the benefits of trading on a public market with a regulatory environment specifically designed with their needs in mind. One of the London Stock Exchange group of markets, supported by an expert community of advisers, and invested in by many large institutional fund managers, AIM offers a unique global platform for international and ambitious companies to grow their business. During 2010 AIM companies raised US$11 billion in equity issues.
Having signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange in 2007, we work closely with our sister exchange, and Israel continues to be one of our most important international markets.
